Hal, try a search for Willow Springs and Burtonton at this site.
http://digital.library.cornell.edu/m/moawar/waro.html

According to this site there was a skirmish that took place on Bayou Pierre near Willow Springs.

I also came across this site that states J. J. Harper and Mrs. O. B. Harper of Rocky Springs were victims of the 1878 yellow fever epidemic.

Hope this helps.
