Gibson, resident of Salem, Mississippi, enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company A, 2nd Regiment, 1st Brigade, Army of Mississippi**, August 24, 1861 at Iuka, appointed Captain October 1,1861, captured at Fort Donelson, February 16, 1862, captured near Nashville, Tennessee December 15, 1864, sent to Johnson's Island December 20, 1864, released on taking the Oath June 16, 1865, age 25

**This company subsequently became Company A, 23rd Regiment Mississippi Infantry

The regiment was captured at Fort Donelson in February, 1862, and was exchanged about September 20, 1862.
