December 3.— Muster-in roll of Captain Henry Lathrop's Com-
pany, the Natchez Light Infantry, in the Fifth Regiment of Mis-
sissippi Volunteers, commanded by Colonel W. S. Patton, called
into the service of the state of Mississippi under and by virtue o

an act of the legislature passed November 21, 1861 to serve from
December 3, 1861 (date of muster roll) for the term of sixty days
unless sooner discharged. . . .

Mustering Officer.

This company is armed with forty-seven Sharps rifles with
sabers, bayonets and accoutrements complete, belonging to the
Natchez Fencibles and valued at $50 each, say $2,350. Thirty
rifled muskets with bayonets, cartridge, and cap boxes and waist
belts belonging to Adams County and valued at $30 each, say
$900.
Each member of this company has furnished himself with a
fatigue uniform and underclothing complete, two pairs of blan-
kets, haversack, canteens, and cooking utensils.

November 25.— Muster-in roll of Captain James W. Higgason's
Company, Lock Huston's Aides, in the Fifth Regiment of Missis-
sippi Volunteers, commanded by Colonel W. S. Patton, called
into the service of the state of Mississippi under and by virtue of
an act of legislature passed November 21, 1861, to serve from
November 25, 1861 (date of this muster roll) for the term of sixty
days, unless sooner discharged. . . .

the Kemper Blues, in the Fifth Regiment of Mississippi Volun-
teers, commanded by Colonel W. S. Patton, called into the ser-
vice of the state of Mississippi under and by virtue of an act of
the legislature passed November 21, 1861, to serve from Decem-
ber 2, 1861 (date of this muster roll) for the term of sixty days,
unless sooner discharged. . . .

First Regiment, Sixty-Days Mississippi Volunteers.

Company K (Mississippi Boys)

Stationed at Corinth, November 30, 1861.
November 30.— At a meeting of the sixty day volunteers from
Lauderdale and Clarke Counties, held in Corinth for the purpose
of organizing a company and electing officers thereof, Mr. J. S.
Terrill was appointed chairman and C. A. Smith requested to act
as secretary. W. S. Patton was nominated for captain and
received forty-nine votes. Being the unanimous vote, he was
declared duly elected. Captain 0. S. Holland was elected unani-
mously first lieutenant, having received fifty-one votes. W. H.
Jackson was nominated for second lieutenant and also C. A.
Smith, when W. H. Jackson received thirty-nine votes, being a
majority of the votes cast, was declared duly elected second lieu-
tenant. Joshua McLamore and [David] L. Brannom were nomi-
nated for third lieutenant, when McLamore received twenty-six
votes and Brannom received twenty-four votes. McLamore was
declared duly elected third lieutenant. We the chairman, secre-
tary, and managers of the above election, certify this to be a cor-
rect copy of the same. Given under our hands the day and date
above written.
