Richard Bridges of Yazoo City, MS appears to have served in Co K of Adams'/Wood's 1st MS Cavalry. I guess that would have placed him under Capt. William S. Yerger.
Unfortunately, his headstone in the Short Creek Cemetery just south of Yazoo City, says Richard Bridges was attached to Co B of the 1st MS Lt. Artillery. I can't tell you how that happened, or how long it took me to give up trying to find him at Port Hudson.
What I would like to know from someone here, is more about Major H. W. Bridges who accompanied Captain Muldrow's squadron checking a flanking movement in the second Champion Hill battle. This allowed General Adams to fall back across Baker's Creek bridge. Major Bridges was killed in this action. Can someone identify Major Bridges' command? Which state?
