John R. Bealle, Noxubee Troopers

The Battle-Friedman Home in Tuscaloosa (pictured below) has a portrait of John R. Bealle and his wife Virginia. The 1850 census of Alabama lists him as a resident of Tuscaloosa County; by 1860 he and his wife are living in Pickens County. A death notice in the Southwestern Baptist announces Virginia Bealle's death at age thirty on Aug. 10, 1861. The portrait gives his death year as 1862.

John R. Bealle may be a lieutenant in the "Noxubee Troopers," Capt. James H. Rives, Co. "F", 1st Mississippi Cavalry. The will of his father, John S. Bealle, dated May 21, 1869, Tuscaloosa County AL, mentions him as my late son John R. Bealle.

Does anyone know more about him?
