A.J. Avara is buried in the Confederate Cemetery near the campus of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC).

The wartime graves there are marked with iron tablets like the NPS battlefields use. The remains were moved from a nearby location on the Tennessee River which was eroding away. This was sometime after the war. Not anytime recent. You can get that history from the link. Anyway, there is a picture of the tablet with A. J. Avara's name on it. There are several 41st men buried there.
