Thank you Tony for the source reference. Since these were referred to by a Confederate soldier as "Rubber rugs" it gave me impression soldiers probably placed them underneath to protect from the cold damp earth, and would use their regular issued blankets, which are referenced several times (rugs only once) in the same correspondence, for protection from the cold weather. Any idea as to the size of these "India Rubber blankets" - compared to the regular issued wool blankets?
