Thanks for providing that additional information. It is interesting that James L. was, according to his CMSR anyway, the younger brother to John J. and substituted for him effective July 1, 1862, one of the few members of the regiment to serve as a substitute. He was also named to the Roll of Honor twice. Once for the battle of South Mountain, and again for Gettysburg, July 3rd, implying he was involved in Pickett's Charge where he was either mortally wounded or KIA. Conflicting records indicate he may have been killed on July 1, 1863, but since the ROH specifically lists the July 1 and July 3 actions separately, I would tend to believe the July 3rd date as being more accurate.
