Fifes

I am searching for information regarding my GGGrandfather, R. C. Fife,(Ransom). He was in the 24th BATTALION, MISSISSIPPI CAVALRY (MOORMAN'S). He was also at the siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana. He is from Port Gibson, Mississippi. He originally joined the 4th Louisiana Infantry on April 14, 1962, with his brother William Fife and two cousins, Saxton Shaw Fife and B. P. Fife.

Union records list a R. K. Fife, a soldier in the Seven Stars Mississippi Battery listed as a prisoner of war captured at Port Hudson July 9, 1863, was paroled 10-12-1863. I am in possession of a letter he wrote to his wife Clarissa while he was stationed at Port Hudson.
He was in his mid-30's at the start of the war and from his letter I can tell he had great concern regarding his responsibilities for his wife and son.

He was killed June 10, 1865 just two days before civil rule was re-instated in Mississippi, by D. A. Jones. I do not know what happened, what or why?

Any information regarding R. C. Fife would be greatly appreciated,

Phil Fife
