Re: Quinn's 2nd Inf Regt. State Troops

My cousin Larry is much more of an expert on this family, I'm really just getting started, but I will try to fill in some of the blanks for you. Perhaps you can also help me out also.

John Sartin Jr was the patriarch of the Sartin family in Southwest Mississipi. He had ~11-13 children: Major, William, Joseph E., Amanda, Leander Lee, John III, Helen Margaret, Emily, James Barton, and David Robert are the ones I'm fairly certain of. Of these children, William, Alfred, James Barton, and David Robert were definitely in the war. Both James and David died in the war. Both Alfred and William were in the State Troops. David and James were in the 38th MS Calvary. I have David married to Salina Ann Smith, but I haven't found any children yet.

There were numerous son's and daughters of these siblings in the war. I am compiling a list and trying sort it out. My cousin probably has much information that I, but it is written down and stored away. He lives very far away from me, so we haven't seen each other for years. Mostly of what I have gotten from him so far is from his memory.

Alfred had several children: Jack, Jessie (daughter), Samuel Pickney, John Gibson, and Joseph P. I realize now that you are calling him James instead of John. I checked again and I'm fairly certain his name is John Gibson. I have almost no information on Alfred's chldren: no spouse or children names, except for Joseph P, who is my great grandfather. I'm guessing that the other brothers were too young to have been in the war. I do know that John and Samuel were both in the 1st Regiment. John was in the Calvary and Samuel was in Light Artillery.

Joseph P Sartin had at least one son, my Grandfather, Joseph L Sartin. I'm still trying to get more information on both of them.

My grandfather settled in Covington County and raised 9 children with my grandmother, Mary Alice Johnson. Most of my Aunt and Uncles still live in that area.

Can you give me more information on Samuel? Perhaps the names of his wife and children?

And by the way, nice to meet you too, cousin.
