But Davis' endorsement on this message basically demanded to know why Johnston had not linked up with Pemberton ... that's hardly "normal practice."

And would Davis' endorsement have been communicated back to Johnston? I guess we really have no way of knowing the date that Davis returned the message to Seddon.
