I am looking for any info that might be helpful in locating the burial site of my great grandfather, PVT James A. Sanders. He was with Co C, 37th Miss Regt. I know from civil war documents that he died Feb 28th 1863 at Snyder's Bluff. As I understand it no major military action took place at Vicksburg until the summer of 1863, so I assume he did not die as a result of battle, but rather disease or sickness. I have been told that in these instances burial would be nearby and probably marked with some type of wooden marker. I suppose he could be among the unknown buried at Vicksburg but as I understand it most of those would have been battlefield casualties. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on how I might locate a burial site.
