That information sounds perfectly reasonable to me. However, you must understand that Confederate authorities were responsible for detention, not Federal. Up until the very end General Taylor made every effort to maintain military discipline and order. Soldiers from other commands entering Confederate lines in west Alabama would have been directed to designated assembly points under authority of General Taylor or placed under arrest.
