And going back to the originals - this from the UK Odd Fellows website:
"In time, the Yeoman Guilds became viewed as respectable, law abiding organisations. In smaller towns and villages, however, there were usually insufficient numbers of Fellows of a particular trade to form dedicated guilds (you can see what's coming, can't you!)
"So Fellows from all trades in a town banded together to form one Guild - these Guildsmen could be called Odd Fellows because they were fellow tradesmen from an odd assortment of trades."
