As a followup to my earlier posting, was there a unit, perhaps short-lived named the 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion? I have read a vague reference to the men listed in "History of Old Tishomingo Co, MS" by Cochran, Fan Alexander, possibly being from the 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion. I've also read an article by Ed Bearss entitled "The Great Railroad Raid" (http://www.iowa3rdcavalry.com/great%20railroad%20raid/startingpage.htm )where he references a 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion.

I know there is a 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion State Troops. The unit described in Mr. Bearss article, does not seem to be this unit.

Anybody ever run across a 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion?
