Compiling Civil War Service records and being a USAF Historian are two very different fields.

A doubt a USAF historian has access to current or living personal records of military members. I doubt also that he is involved with dispersing, travel, supply, ordnance or other sensitive records currently in use within his command. Any such information would have to be filtered to him with special clearances. I would be very surprised that he had free reign to access to such records, unlike Civil War records which are now public domain.

I never said military historians were not useful. I also have a friend that was a USAF historian, who was also a small arms instructor like me, he was very useful in getting me some M-60 time.
