In the OR, Vol. 17, Pt. 2, on page 440 we learn "Rocky Ford is on the Tallahatchie about 20 miles above Abbeville, on Railroad crossing."
Another report states Rocky Ford to be about 22 miles from Oxford.
A look at the map it appears that the Tallahatchie is about 2+ miles above Abbeville which appears to be the 22 miles above Oxford.
There was a lot of movement and scouting in the area from Grant's army. Skirmishes took place on Dec. 3 & 4 at Springdale and Water Valley south of Oxford on the Mississippi Central RR. See OR, Vol 17 Pt. 1, starting on page 499, Report of Col. Edward Hatch, 2nd Iowa Cavalry. Re the latter, it was stated that the Confederate cavalry approached Water Valley from Rocky Ford.
