An interesting find today while reviewing CSRs is that the Second Auditor's Office of the Treasury Department, had an office or officer titled Ch. Div. Deceased Soldier's, seeking information on deceased troops. The date of the inquiry I'm looking at is Jan. 14, 1864.
Assume the title refers to Chief, Division of Deceased Soldier's.
Wonder if anyone knows what this office was doing with these records?
