Just found out they were 32-pounder rifles. They and every weapon and piece of ammunition found in Jackson in mid-July 1863 was ordered thrown into the Pearl River by Sherman. Plus the railroad bridge pilings were ordered destroyed by artillery fire. It took several days to accomplish this task according to Sherman, which delayed his evacuation back to the Big Black.
