Question for Roy Hammett, Jr

Roy

Saw your post on the burial of the soldiers killed in the train accident. I am trying to trace James Harvey Hammett, who was born in Sumter District, S.C. 16 Aug 1847, and apparently died in Yazoo City 19 Feb 06. He was a private in C/Hampton's Legion Mounted Infantry 1864-65. I think hge was a physician psotwar. His father, William James Nelson Hammett, was 1 SGT of the same company when it was infantry, and was killed at Seven Pines 31 May 62. her was an attorney and magistrate, and editor of the Clarendon [S.C.] Banner, putting down his pen to join the Manning Guards (Co C) as its 3 SGT in June 1861. Is there any connection? i'm trying to put together biographical sketches of each man of the Legion, and saw the similarity of surnames.
