The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

14th Mississippi Infantry

I need to tap into some of the knowledge here on the message board reference the 14th Mississippi Infantry. The 14th fought at the Battle of Wise Forks or Kinston in March of 1865.

The March 29, 1865 edition of the "North Carolina Standard" - Raleigh, NC newspaper lists Confederate wounded evacuated to several of the local hospitals in Raleigh. In particular, General Hospital #7 lists wounded from several different Mississippi Regiments. Unfortunately it does not mention what battle they came from - Wise Forks or Bentonville.

The following 14th Soldiers were listed as being admitted to Hospital # 7:

A Co. Pvt. L. T. Carraway WIA Right Thigh
A Co. Pvt. A. H. Mcleod WIA Right Hand & Shoulder
B Co. Pvt. Wm. Summers WIA Right Thigh & Ankle
C Co. Pvt. J. H. Smith WIA Right Arm
D Co. Lt. W. H. McConnell WIA Left Knee
D Co. Sgt. T. J. Parker WIA Contusion (shell)
H Co. Lt. W. J. Laughlin WIA Right Leg

I have already determined that the WIA listed under Hosptial #7 from the 43rd Mississippi Regiment were all from the Battle of Wise Forks. The 14th was in the same brigade as the 43rd during the battle so my assumption is the Soldiers listed above probably were wounded at Wise Forks as well.

Anyone with knowledge of this particualr regiment and its casulaty figures I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

I would love to share or swap information on any of the other Mississippi Regiments that participated in the Carolinas Campaign as well. Shoot the Webmaster an email and he can forward it to me.

Thanks in advance.
