I don't know how long the MDAH has been doing this privately-funded historical marker program. I do know that local historians in Yazoo City are also working on a similar marker for the first Mississippi high school football game that was appparently played in Yazoo City....!!!!

They also have a marker for the CSA shipyard where the CSS Arkansas was built; as I remember the marker was placed on the main highway and nowhere near the actual shipyard area.
