Fatal Train Accident

This brief news item appeared in the January 7, 1863 edition of the New Orleans Bee.

The date given here appears to be December 11.

Edwards Depot, December 11 -
An accident occurred on the Southern Railroad, three miles below this station, at 11 o'clock this morning.
The following persons were killed: G. W. Etheridge, H. C. McCartney, J. J. Miles all of Company G, Thirty fifth Mississippi. Richard Lowery, Company I, Thirtieth Alabama; Jas. L. Andrews, of Vernon, Mississippi, Company A, Withers' Artillery, and forty-one others were wounded-some it is thought mortally.
Lieutenant Colonel Kerney of Vernon, Mississippi, and of the Eighteenth Mississippi, had one of his arms broken in two places. The killed and wounded are at this place.
