Re: W.H. Dickerson with 31st MS Regiment

RE: W.H. Dickerson with 31st information. Here is probably a good example of what can happen. I discovered that W.H. Dickerson, who I thought was my great grandfather, was captured at Vicksburg in 1863 and was an assistant surgeon under Orr. However, at his final surrender in 1865 when he signed the oath of allegiance he stated his home was Warren, Kentucky. Upon checking the census I discovered that he was born in MS but lived in Kentucky. I had previously checked my great grandfather's census information and at that time he was living in Lee County and listed his occupation as painter/farm worker. Furtheremore he lists his birthplace in the 1870 and 1880 centus as Virginia. The children's names all checked out in Lee, MS as well as his wife's name but the Warren, Ky Dickerson did not. So this is not my great grandfather and the search goes on. I'm sure I can locate many more W.H. Dickersons in the Confederacy but without identifying clues such as his wife, children, birthplace & occupation he will be difficult to locate. But the hunt goes on. But thanks for getting me started.
