George,

I can help you as I authored the new book about the McGavock Confederate Cemetery. The man buried in Grave 296, Section 41, is Moses Pitts, not Pittman. He has a special mark in the cemetery with that name engraved in it. On the 41st MS roster he is listed as M. T. Pitts.

George E. Purvis was affiliated with the Nashville Republican Banner and compiled a list of the Confederate dead which was published in the newspaper on June 28, 1866. Although helpful there are a number of errors in this particular paper and it is not nearly as helpful as the list published in the The Weekly Review, a Franklin paper, two days prior. Both lists were transcribed from the official list compiled by George W. Cuppett, the man who led the exhumation efforts in Franklin.

Let me know if I can help you further.

Eric
