Howdy,
Thanks Alan. Hopefully that will provide Scott (original poster) with another area in which to look.
My interest would be what may have occurred in Clarke Co, MS, to have displaced my GG Grandfather Allen Alexander Carter and surviving family members from Clarke Co, MS to TX, about 1866 (may have been Reconstruction).
Allen arrived in Clarke Co in the mid-1830's and was enumerated there in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census. Migrated to Texas about 1866.
He had one son, Amos Carter, Co D, 14th MS Inf Regt, who was killed in action 15 Feb 1862 at Ft Donelson. Another son, Jacob Carter, same unit, was wounded same date and sent home. He recovered and discharged in Mar 1862. Died in Brown Co, TX, 8 Mar 1889.
My G Grandfather, too young to serve, also migrated to Texas.
Bobby
