They were part of the Port Hudson garrison. Several problems with this, though ...
1) There is no mention of a Whitworth at Port Hudson.
2) Every other time a Whitworth is moved in the Vicksburg Campaign, it happens via a direct order from Pemberton.
3) IIRC (and I would have to look this up) Pemberton specifically enumerates his available heavy artillery in the O.R., and no mention is made of a Whitworth at Port Hudson.
4) A Whitworth bolt makes a distinctive screeching sound, and no mention of such a sound is made in any of the first-hand accounts at Raymond.
