This company organized at Fort Morgan, Ala., Feb. 13, 1862. Initially designated Co. “D”, some members were Floridians, while others had served in Companies “F” and “H” of the 2nd Alabama Regiment.
Since these twelve-month companies were leaving service within a few months, the War Department wanted to have as many as possible reenlist in a "war" command ASAP.
