Oh that is interesting. After reading more about the raid I see that Forrest had 1500-2000 mounted men with him in Memphis that night. Though I'm sure only a portion charged the hotel.

After searching further and gathering more family information - I also think that Mike Linch was in the 20th Infantry Miss Company G (which was mounted and where he could have been a sergeant) AND in the 11th Miss Cav Perrins. I have indications of both units.

Is that possible? Were they sometimes transferred?

The Lynch family has a total of 5 James Lynch's I have listed but none of age in that time period. However I am still working on adding siblings to some of the older ancestors so it's still possible - (though I wouldn't be directly descended)
