Although I don't disagree with the primary sources re: pell mell retreat through town. I believe Gregg was competent enough to not allow his brigade to just bed down on their arms. I believe he would have made the proper dispositions before calling it a night. I agree that 3rd KY probably was in position to cover the retreat, Adam's men, I don't know, but am willing to defer to your more extensive study.
If Pemberton were trying to build a force at Raymond, why did 14Ms and Brookhaven battery stay in Jackson with BG Adams, and why order Harris's state troops to reinforce the western wing. The addition of these 3 units would have materially aided Gregg in keeeping 17Corps in check and not uncovered the direct route to Clinton to cut the RR. What is your opinion. John
