I am assuming that Henry K. Gardner was a member of the Mississippi unit because his wife's uncle, Marquess de Lafayette Hodo, was a lieutenant in the 43rd.
From brigade history, I learned that Hodo was killed at Vicksburg during the seige. Thus, Gardner would have been taken prisoner and later paroled. I received information that he was a member of Co. H. However, his name does not appear in the company roster I searched.
A copy of his parole has survived and is owned by my bother who is sending me the information available.
thanks for helping,
Gardner Collins
