Jerry:

I recently reread Powell's book "Reminiscence and Anecdotes of the War for Southern Independence" and I didn't see your ggrandfather's name mentioned in the book, nor anything about Co. H. However I did locate information about him in another book, "For Dixie Land I'll Take My Stand--A Muster Listing of All Known Mississippi Confederate Soldiers. . . . by H. Grady Howell, Jr. Your ggrandfather is listed on page 470 as:

Chandler, James L.; cpl.;H; 36th Regt Inf.

Also, I located a brief military history (4 pages) of the 36th Miss. in the book "Military History of Mississippi 1803-1898"--Including a Listing of All Known Mississippi Confederate Military Inits." This book is a reprint by H. Grady Howell, Jr. of the original Military History of Mississippi . . ." by Dunroland. If you would like me to, I'll copy the 36th's military history and send it to you by regular mail, but I'll need your mailing address, which you can send by email or regular mail. This will be my last post to you unless I hear from you soon. . . . . Joe Ashley (Colorado Springs, CO)
