Hello,

His name was James D. Barton. His hometown would be listed as either Richmond or Saltillo. The family lived in the former community when they first moved to MS from AL, then moved to Saltillo. But I am not sure when the move occured. The family was listed in Richmond in the 1860 census and Saltillo on the 1870 census. James' occupation might be listed as either a farmer or a lawyer. From the information in the census records it appears he farmed when he first got to MS, then later obtained legal training.
