Re: Special Project: Hood's TN Campaign

Tim, My ggggrandfather's information is below. He was killed at Franklin. His story ends there, evidently in an unmarked grave.
Following is information from my cousin:
L.D. Williams was in Quitman Southerns, Leake County MS, Company C, 6th Mississippi Reg. Enrolled May 8, 1862. The 6th fought in Miss., the after the fall of Vicksburg and Jackson, MS, it went to Atlanta. After the fall of Atlanta, it went with Gen. John Bell Hood to Nashville, TN. on the way at the battle of Franklin, TN, Lorenzo Dow was wounded on Nov 30, 1864 and died there on Dec 1st. Many soldiers were buried where they fell. The army came back through Franklin later and it being very cold, many grave markers were used for firewood. Many soldiers killed there were later reburied in mass graves for the unknown and marked graves for the known, in the McGavock Confederate Cemetery there. I (my cousin) have been there and he in not in a marked grave, so must be in the mass unknown graves. He did have a tendency to go AWOL at times when the 6th was close to home. He was a private, promoted to Corporal, but back to private due to AWOL adventures. I have seen Lorenzo Dow's service record. However, It has many gaps and is not too complete.

L.D. Williams, age 25, Company C, 6th MS Inf. enrolled May 8, 1862. Capt. N.H. Allen's Company.
