The battle on Lickskillet Rd. occurred on July 28, 1864. Other names for this battle: Ezra Church, The Poor House and the battle west of Atlanta on the Lickskillet Rd.

This was the first battle led by Stephen D. Lee commanding Hood's old Corps. Sharp's Brigade of which the 7th, 9th, 10th, 41st, 44th Miss. and 9th Battn. Miss. Sharpshooters was a disaster. Lee did not know his commanders that well, having just arrived and the order to attack was premature causing the first brigades engaged to be slaughtered by enfilading fire on the right.

Several assaults failed. Killed and wounded numbers were high; even considering the losses already sustained a week earlier in the battle of Atlanta [July 22nd].

Service records will be the best hope of finding out if he was sent to a specific hospital. Men were sent back to Atlanta then as far away as Macon to the south and LaGrange to the west and on to Alabama.
