Many thanks Jim and Hugh for your help and suggestions, the info on S J Shappley came from a book on the Shappley family I forgot to aid it has him as discharged from service 21 Feb 1863 unable to preform duty in the field or other departments of the service, having suffered a gun shot wound to the left knee.
