Photos of Civil War soldiers in uniform are incredibly rare.

I couldn't even hazard a guess about the percentage of veterans whose war-era, uniformed photos survive, but I would guess it to be something on the order of one in every thousand.

For instance, I have 13 CS grandfathers and ca. 40 CS uncles. I have no photos of any of these men in uniform, in spite of a rather large collection of pictures of some 57 of my direct ancestors!

I don't know of any sites that have large numbers of soldiers' photos online.

I do, however, have three published book of photos of uniformed Confederates -- one Mississippi-specific, and two that cover probably every Confederate state.

Why don't you list your ancestors and their units and let those of us with a few of these types of resources do a quick look-up for you?
