I am trying to determine where an ancestor of mine might be buried. He was mustered into service for the North in Illinois in 1861. He fought for two and a half years, then died in 1863 "near Vicksburg, Mississippi" at Righ (?) Hospital at Camp Sherman. He did not die in battle, but of typhoid. Can anyone tell me where Union soldiers who died in there, in this manner (an army hospital) would have been buried? Is there a cemetery near there, or would the body have been sent back to Illinois?
