Stokely E Roberts born in January of 1824 served as a Captain in the Confederate Army. He was my great great grandfather. He married my great great grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Spearman. There were many stories of his death depending on who told them. I am told he actually died in Gatesville Texas at the age of 80. He was crossing a creek/river to check on some cattle and drowned in the creek. A search party found him later. Stokely’s daughter Roberta Atlas Roberts married my great grandfather John Ephraim Mize. He is buried
In Gatesville. Stokely Roberts was rumored to be an atrocious person, but praise the Lord my father, Ernie Mize Stokely’s greatgrandson, was a fine man who proudly and bravely served our country in the jungles of Vietnam.
