I have passed along the names of the all the relatives for Uriah Price who are most interested in solving this puzzle. All we can hope is that some other records are available in the family research. Uriah was born in 1809 and died in 1864. I have no idea why his name does not appear on the census, he may have been in his father's household or he may have lived elsewhere.
Anna Leese Fuller sent the following:
"The only Uriah Price I have was in the 7th Miss Inf, Co. B. He was the son of Joseph (Joe) Price, Sr. (7 Jul 1785, SC - 30 Sep 1875, Bogue Chitto, Lincoln Co., MS) and his first wife Mary (Polly) Hart (9 Oct 1790, Richland Co., SC - 1822 - Lawrence Co., MS). This part of Lawrence Co. became Lincoln Co. after the war.
Uriah was b. 12 Sep 1809, SC; d. 24 Feb 1864, Lawrence Co., MS.
All three and more of the family are buried on Joe's farm, in a cemetery whose location has been lost over the years.
Uriah's parents are among the first Mississippi Settlers.
I have attached a jpg that may be of interest. It is on the road at the Price home stead.
As for a Catherine Price, mother of Jasper Newman -- I don't have anybody fitting that description. You didn't send geographical locations, years/dates, or other "family connections" that might be clues. I did check several books, but can't work in the Newman name."
From what I can gather, Uriah was the 1/2 brother to William "Red Bill" Price Co. B 7th Mississippi and 1/2 brother of Lydia Price, wife of Thomas Price Co. B 7th Miss. William and Lydia were children of Joe Price and his second wife, Nancy Herrington. Their sister, Catherine Price, married late in life, but to a Brown not a Newman.
