The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Letter from the Steamer Star of the West

I have been posting, on the Kansas Board, a series of letters and miscellaneous news article written by South Carolinians who went to Kansas in 1856, and published in various local Carolina newspapers that year. Obviously that political campaign and the turmoil surrounding it greatly magnified the tensions between north and South and helped fan the border wars which wracked Missour from 1861 to 1865. I have just posted a June, 1856. letter on the Kansas board which descrtibes the actions of Missourians at Lexington in intercepting and disarming Free Soilers heading up river to Kansas. Rather than post it here, I simply call you attention to it, if anyone is interested. Other letters in the series are written from points in Missouri and might interest people who visit your Missouri Board.
