My wife's uncle used to be a dowser. He would keep everybody entertained at family pic-nic's etc. I thought it was a bunch of malarkey until one day he said he would prove it to me. He had me hold a forked stick in my hands and the thing did not even quiver, then he put his hands on the outside of my hands without him touching the stick. The stick bent toward the ground and I held it so tightly that it stripped part of the bark off. It sort of made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. He had the power but was a fine person. He used to help the city find water lines. He told me he could find the depth of something by backing up until he first felt the tug on the stick and then walk forward and count the steps until the stick was straight down. Multiply the steps times three and he said it was usually pretty close. It seemed like he could find just about whatever he wanted. The kids would hide quarters in the yard while the uncle would be in the house and not looking and then he would come out and find them.
No longer living now but he was a special person.
