The information that it was a Union company was all new to me.I had been led to believe, previously, that it was a Confederate unit. Could there have been one of each? Below is the information that I had been given. Can you please help me out with this? I am confused.

“Thomas P. McCARLEY was listed as a Confederate in the Civil War, in Co. K, 15 Missouri Calvary. He was a 1st. Lieutenant and enlisted in Randolph Co. Arkansas. In 1865 he was listed as 30 years old with dark eyes, dark hair and dark complexion. He was 5 ft. 8 in. tall and born in Tennessee. At this time he was listed as a prisoner of war. This was the end of the War and I assume all Southerners were listed as prisoners of war at this time and then released a little later. It was listed that they surrendered on 11th of May 1865, by Brig. General M. Jeff. Thompson commanding officer of their Army, to Major General G. M. Dodge commanding the Dept. of Mo. They were paroled at Jackson port, Arkansas on 5th June 1865."

Thank you in advance.
