Rains' 8th MSG in Indian Territory

I'm looking for sources on Brig Gen Rains' division in Indian Territory, particulary during the 1st Indian Expedition -- June and July 1862. I believe around this time, Rains had his headquarters at Tahlequah, capital of the Cherokee Nation. On at least two occassions in June 1862, Union troops encountered pickets or scouts believed to be Rains' men on Cowskin Prairie (between present Grove OK and Southwest City MO). Reportedly some of Rains' men were taken prisoner.

I'm looking for primary sources regarding Rains' in Tahlequah and his activities in the northeastern Cherokee Nation during this period.

Thanks.
