In Response To: Jan 21,1863 skirmish ()

In Carolyn Bartels "The Civil War in Missouri Day by Day" it contains this reference. "Jan 21st...Colonel Joseph B. Douglas took a Confederate camp about 9 miles from Columbia. Four captains out of eight were taken but not before they had exhausted all their ammunition in the direction of their captors".
Douglas was Col. of the 61st Enrolled Mo. Militia.
His report on the skirmish is found in the Official Records in Vol. 22 Chapter 34, page 219-220.
He also mentioned in his report he suffered 2 wounded in the skirmish & captured 2 of Porters' men later.
I hope this is of some help to you.
