I have just about reached the same conclusion. Much of what I have read in Edwards' book can be corroborated by official sources, although you have to overlook some exaggerations and his obvious but understandable bias. But unless I am missing something this seems to be one of the exceptions. I don't think losses like that would go unreported. Perhaps it was the whiskey talking?
