Liberty Township in St. Francis county was home to the Barnes clan, the Hamms, the Bayless folks as well as a known hiding place of non other than Sam Hilderbrand. Take the 1860 Census of Liberty Township and you get a who's who of partisan guerilla warriors from St. Francis County. Lots of 2nd Mo Cav folks who "deserted" etc.
