There were 7 companies of Missouri State Guard formed in Schuyler County, Mo. One was led by Capt. John McCully who is my direct ancestor. One contemporary writer called Schuyler County a "successionist hell". I have done considerable research on the war in the county including the November 24, 1861 skirmish near Lancaster where several of my relatives were killed including Capt. John McCully. Many of the Schuyler County Missouri boys did indeed end up in William Dunn's Company of the First Northeast Missouri which was part of "Porter's Guerrilla Army"
In reply to older posts I am familiar with the Burgher name in the county.
