The Thompson reference seems to state that Smith was killed on the fence line just as he was crossing which would put it not to far from the 2nd Colorado Line. Moses Smith was a relative of the prominent Smith family of Arkansas to which his father wrote the Arkansas Constitution. According to my research of second Newtonia the men who were were buried on the field by POW's stated that Smith was buried on the field. If so then he was one of the many graves moved to Neosho after the war by Captain John Ritchey of Newtonia and Neosho. All of the confedrate graves at Neosho are unmarked.
