Back in January of 2006 I posted a request looking for help in identifying any info on my Great Great Great Grandfather Fred Aikmus who supposedly died in the Civil War. I recently came across a family bible that indicated that the family name may have been 'Ackmuss' vs. it's current version of Aikmus. I was wondering if anyone may have come across any information on a Fred or Frederick Ackmuss. I am uncertain to which side his loyalty existed. I know only that his son Henry 'Ackmuss' Aikmus was left an orphan at the age of 11 when his father (Fred) died in the Civil War in 1865. The obituary of Henry indicates he was born in St. Louis, MO. So I am assuming Fred was either in a MO or IL troop, but again just speculating. I am grateful for any effort that may help me to overcome this road block.
